WGH Yoga

At WGH we consider yoga and Ayurveda as the two sides of the same coin because both these practices aim at the physical, mental and spiritual well-being of the human society. Combining these two would be most ideal preventive health care on earth. The practitioners of yoga believe that yoga leads to the union of individual consciousness with universal consciousness.

History

Though yoga-like practices were mentioned in Rigveda and Upanishads, it was in Katha Upanishad of the fifth century BCEthat the word ’yoga’was used in the present meaning of the word. Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the most comprehensive text on Yoga, date to the early centuries CE. By the second half of the first millennium CE, Yoga philosophy became one of the six orthodox darsanas (philosophical schools) of Hinduism and between the ninth and 11th centuries Hatha yoga texts began to emerge.
